JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Jonesboro Police Department held a car seat safety check on Arkansas State University's campus on Saturday.

Arkansas Children's Hospital representatives assisted in checking seats for correct installation and defects.

According to Holly Terry, the state child passenger safety coordinator for ACH, the checks are imperative for parents.

"People are thankful we're here, and I always have them tell me they learned something new or something different," said Terry.

The event is especially important in Arkansas.

According to Terry, nearly 90 to 100 percent of people are misusing their car seats.
