PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) -

One Paragould girl is hoping to remind people to be thankful for veterans during the holidays.

Kyleigh Boone is only ten years old, but she and her family are baking 60 pies to raise money for the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Kyleigh's pecan pie won the grand prize at the Greene County Fair, and that is when she decided to sell the dessert to raise money for a good cause.

"I feel like they deserve more than what we can give them," said Kyleigh.  "My dad is a purple heart veteran, so that had a big influence on me."

She said while she was at the fair she also met some nice veterans at a booth and that helped inspire the project.

"She just has the biggest heart," said Sydney Wallace, Kyleigh's mom.   "We really were not surprised that she came up with such a great idea."

The family says they have shed lots of proud and happy tears throughout the project.

"We're all so extremely proud of her and overwhelmed at the response," said Amy Boone, Kyleigh's step-mom.

"It's just wonderful, I'm so glad that we can help them," said Brandon Boon, Kyleigh's dad.

Each pie will also have the name of a veteran on it.

Kyleigh said she hopes this will remind everyone to be thankful for all veterans this holiday season.
