Arkansas -

A multi-million dollar settlement has been reached in a class-action lawsuit against Phillip Morris, USA Inc. makers of Marlboro and Marlboro lights cigarettes.

Arkansans, who smoke right here in Region 8, reacted to the settlement on Wednesday because they qualify for a chunk of the $45 million settlement.

Im just alarmed, Ashley Stevenson, a smoker of 20 years, said.

According to Marlborolightsclass.com, the settlement alleged the brand was marketed and sold as healthier than other cigarettes.

Also, the settlement offers payments to anyone who smoked Marlboro Lights or Marlboro Ultra Lights within the years of 1971 through 2010 in the state.

Stevenson said she has been smoking Marlboro for several years and now she does not know if she can trust it anymore.

I'm an assistant manager at a tobacco store and you know we sell a lot of the Phillip Morris brand cigarettes and to know those are not what theyre out to be or that they are making it to be what its not, its not okay, Stevenson said.

Stevenson said she will look into filing a claim to possibly receive a payment.

Im definitely going to do my research and see whats going on, she said. I cant say I trust Marlboro anymore.

Each payment will be based on the number of packs bought and when they were purchased.
