JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Black Friday is almost over but another big holiday event starts next week.

Giving Tuesday, which began in 2012, is right around the corner. Its purpose is to give back this holiday season.

The special day is celebrated to encourage a spirit of giving to charitable organizations each Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

Tywon Taylor and Jada Hicks, a Jonesboro couple, want to participate this year.

I heard about it last night and I kind of like it, Taylor said. Spending a lot of money is not what I do.

This is a good thing that they have a Giving Tuesday so that you can go get the cheap things and give it to people who dont have, Hicks said.

The day of giving follows the years biggest shopping days, and some non-profits ask that shoppers purchase items to donate.

"If anybody can give their time to come and help somebody that needs it you know just, just put it on your heart and make sure you do what you say, Taylor.

The movement is encouraged on social media too, while many non-profits are using #GivingTuesday to encourage people to give to help those in need this holiday season.
