JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The City of Jonesboro hopes to get a $300,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to improve what they call the "Rail Corridor" in Jonesboro.

The corridor, which encompasses areas on and near Johnson Avenue from Arkansas State to Riceland, has many dilapidated or vacant lots.

Earlier this year, two colleges teamed up to determine which areas along the Rail Corridor could benefit from the Brownsfield Grant.

If the city wins the grant, the EPA will assess the Union Pacific Railroad Roundhouse, a scrap metal yard downtown and the old Wolverine shoe plant.

The Jonesboro Finance Committee will discuss applying for the grant Tuesday.
