Kennett Humane Department looking into animal cruelty case

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - Authorities in Southeast Missouri are seeking clues about a dog found emaciated at a home.

According to a Facebook post on the Kennett Humane Department website, the dog was found in the 200 block of South Main Street by a person who thought it was rabid. Instead, the dog was covered in feces, smelling of mouse urine.

The toenails on the 23-pound dog were so long that they were curled outward, officials said.

Anyone with information on the dog or where it came from can call Kennett police at 573-888-4622.
