MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) - Authorities in Baxter County believe they have uncovered a large burglary and theft ring, where investigators found five trailer loads of stolen property Tuesday night, Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery said.
Dwayne Allen Thompson, 41, of Mountain Home was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, breaking or entering and two counts of theft of property after the investigation.
Montgomery said authorities found out about the stolen property after hearing from a confidential informant.
"A confidential information told investigators of mini storage units around Mountain Home that contained stolen property. Investigators obtained two search warrants for mini storage units at D & D Storage at the intersection of E. Hwy 62 B at CR 28 and at the Triple AAA Storage on State Highway 5 North," Montgomery said.
The informant named Thompson and he was arrested after a traffic stop on College Street in Mountain Home, Montgomery said.
Authorities spent Wednesday processing the items found in the mini-storage units, Montgomery said.
"The stolen property has been taken to a temporary storage location at the Baxter County Fairgrounds. The stolen property was taken from break-ins at other mini storages and vacant homes. Some of this property has been connected with incident/offense reports already on file with law enforcement," Montgomery said. "Other articles have not been connected yet with open cases, and the owners of the property may not realize yet that their property has been stolen."
A $50,000 bond was set for Thompson Wednesday, officials said.
The investigation is ongoing and investigators will be at the Baxter County Fairgrounds Building C3 Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help people identify items that may have been taken in the thefts.
