JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Children in Region 8 enjoyed a day spent shopping with local police officers.

The Jonesboro Fraternal Order of Police hosted their 9th annual Shop with a Cop event on Saturday.

Children in need got the opportunity to shop and enjoy lunch with an officer.

The day began with a gathering for breakfast at the Fraternal Order of Police lodge in Jonesboro and then each child paired up with an officer for a fun-filled day.

"We take them shopping, they get to go eat Chick-fil-A, go pick up a cupcake from Gigi's Cupcakes," said Officer Nathan Coleman, President of the Jonesboro F.O.P.  "They just get to go and see officers on a personal level."

The event is something Coleman looks forward to yearly and hopes children do as well.

"It puts everybody in the Christmas spirit," said Coleman.  "We get out there and get some one on one time with some people who really need it."
