POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - Zac Vandergriff's loved ones gathered to honor him on Sunday.
Sunday would have been Vandergriff's 23rd birthday, and many gathered in his memory in the spot where he lost his life.
Vandergriff died in ATV accident in May along Jansen Trail in Randolph County.
His loved ones have now cleaned and placed memorials on a section of the trail that they now call "Vandy's Place."
"We just use this place as a place to remember him and to gather to celebrate his life," said Hannah Whitney, Zac's high school sweetheart.
On Saturday they came together to celebrate and release balloons in Zac's honor.
"He was the kind of person that if you met, he'd give you the shirt off his back to help you out," said Whitney. "He had everyone's back whether he just met you a minute ago or whether he knew you for years."
The group calls themselves the Smiley Gang, a symbol that reminds them of Zac.
"Zac's been drawing this same smiley face since he was in junior high maybe even younger, as far as I know," said Whitney. "It was just his signature pretty much you didn't even have to have a name, as long as he had his smiley face."
As they assembled at Vandy's place smiley faces were everywhere.
The group received smiley face sweatshirts from Zac's mom in his honor.
Some of his friends have also added smiley face decals to their vehicles.
They said they hope to continue adding to Vandy's place to keep Zac's memory alive.
