WEST MEMPHIS, AR - The executive director of an east Arkansas state office that helps out-of-work Arkansans find jobs is out of a job. Sharon Williams has been with the Workforce Investment Board in eastern Arkansas for 20 years but was fired amid allegations of nepotism and mismanagement. She was relieved of her duties at the recommendation of the group's executive council and Governor Huckabee.
A letter from the Governor cited findings by the Department of Labor, which investigated the investment board in March. The board is affiliated with the state-run Arkansas Workforce Centers, which helps link employers with job seekers and provides job training. The board serves Crittenden, Cross, Lee, St. Francis and Phillips counties.
Williams could not be reached for comment.
