UPDATE: Baylor names Rhule as new head football coach

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - UPDATE: Baylor University names a new head football coach and it is not A-State's Blake Anderson.

Instead, it is Matt Rhule, formerly of Temple University.

Reports had indicated possible negotiations with Anderson until Baylor's formal announcement late Tuesday morning.

Could Blake Anderson skip Orlando and head for Texas?

Sources, including the Dallas Morning News, report Anderson is in negotiations with Baylor University to take over as the Bears new head football coach.

Anderson has enjoyed conference success since leading the Red Wolves in 2014.

He has an overall record of 23-15 and has won two Sun Belt Championships. However, he is currently 0-2 in bowl appearances.

Anderson reportedly signed a contract extension with A-State two months ago that pays him $700,000 a year through 2019.

The current leader of the pack is no stranger to Baylor. He was a quarterback and wide receiver for the Bears from 1987 to 1989.

A-State will take on the University of Central Florida in the AutoNation Cure Bowl on Dec. 17 in Orlando.

Meanwhile, Baylor will take on former A-State head coach Bryan Harsin and his Boise State Broncos in the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl on Dec. 27 in Phoenix.

Region 8 News has reached out to A-State for comment, but we have yet to receive an official response.
