ASU Hires One Dean to Run Three Colleges

MAY 26, 2005 - Posted at 7:45 a.m. CDT

JONESBORO, AR - Arkansas State University has hired one person to be dean of three colleges.  Greg Phillips, currently the dean of the College of Agricultre, will also take over as head of the College of Science & Mathematics and the College of Engineering.

The hiring comes a month after the university eliminated several faculty positions and proposed a 5.5 percent tuition increase.  The two additional jobs Phillips is taking over have been vacant.

ASU officials say having Phillips take on the two additional colleges was considered a cost-saving measure, but also will offer opportunities for cross-department research, consolidated advising and combined course offerings.  It is not a merger of the three colleges, they say.

Phillips takes on his new duties on July 1.
