ASU-Newport, AARP offering driver safety course

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) -

Arkansas State University-Newport and AARP are joining forces to offer a Driver Safety course on Friday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The course, which is open to drivers 55 and up, costs $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.

The class will provide new approaches and concepts, including compensating for normal age-related physical changes that may affect driving ability, such as vision, hearing and reaction time.

Other topics will include how medication may affect driving; how to use anti-lock brakes, air bags, and safety belts; when to use a cell phone; what to do if confronted by an aggressive driver; and how to handle problem situations, such as blind spots and heavy traffic.

All who complete the four-hour course will receive a certificate to take to their insurance company to request a discount.

Participants will need to bring their driver’s license and AARP card, if a member, to the class which will be held in Room 134 of Walton Hall.

No tests will be given and refreshments will be served.

Class size is limited to 30 people. To pre-register and pay for the class, call 870-512-7802.
