POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) -

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is calling a time-out on an apparent scam claiming to support a local high school team.

Lt. Darron Moore says the department, along with the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce, has received complaints from area businesses regarding Sports Media.

The Towson, MD company is soliciting and sending out invoices to local businesses for a “2017 PBHS Spring Sports Poster” project.

There is just one problem. Moore says the project is not affiliated in any way with the Poplar Bluff School District.

In fact, he notes that the Better Business Bureau has received “numerous complaints” about Sports Media, which has an F rating with the BBB.

The police department has opened an investigation into the matter.

Considering that the University of Central Arkansas mascot is a bear, it was only natural that one should be found less than a mile from campus.
