POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) -

Police are searching for two women suspected of stealing nearly $10,000 worth of jewelry from a local store.

On Friday, Dec. 9, The Jeweler’s Bench, 750 S. Westwood, reported to Poplar Bluff police that two women selected several pieces of jewelry and asked that it be shipped for a wedding.

As the jewelry was being placed into a shipping box, one of the suspects concealed a bag lying on the counter which contained approximately $9,700 worth of jewelry, according to police.

After the box was sealed, the women gave the store a $200 deposit then left to go to the bank. The women never returned.

Employees became suspicious and opened the box to find the bag of jewelry was missing.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department released a photo of the suspects taken from a surveillance camera in the hopes someone might be able to identify them.

Anyone who knows the identity or whereabouts of the two women should call the police department immediately.

Information can also be provided to Officer J. Woodruff at jwoodruff@pbpolice.org or by calling him at 573-785-5776, extension 1360.
