JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Dec. 14 UPDATE: The need for a smoke inspired a woman to rob a convenience store, Jonesboro police said Wednesday.

Holly Deanne Harris of Paragould was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery and theft in connection with the robbery Tuesday at Casey's General Store, Public Information Specialist Paul Holmes said. According to the probable cause affidavit, Harris told police she went to the store Tuesday morning.

"She was arrested and transported to the police department, where in an interview she told me that she woke up and needed cigarettes but didn't have any money," the affidavit from Jonesboro police noted. "She said she then decided to rob the store. She said she didn't remember the words she spoke to the clerk but that 'it wasn't nice.'

Officers spoke to the victim, who told police Harris walked up to her and told her to put the money in a bag. The victim also told police she was nervous and dropped a few of the bills from the cash register.

"As she bent to pick up the bills up, the woman told her that is (sic) she pushed the button things were going to get bad," the affidavit noted.

Harris was later found across the street at a nearby hotel, where she was arrested.

Police also arrested Robert Michael Heckman of Pocahontas on suspicion of hindering apprehension in the case.

Officer Tanner Middlecoff saw Heckman run past a nearby dumpster and followed him.

"As he neared the suspect, he was able to observe several bills still blowing in the wind between the buildings," police said in a probable cause affidavit. "He (Middlecoff) said he was able to see a large amount of cash on top of an air conditioning unit as he ran past it toward the suspect."

Heckman was later caught and officers were able to retrieve the money, police said, noting it was the same amount taken in the robbery.

District Judge Keith Blackman set a $15,000 bond for Harris and a $150,000 bond for Heckman. The $150,000 bond for Heckman is concurrent with a bond set against Heckman on a terroristic threatening case.

4:30 p.m., Dec. 13 UPDATE: Two people were in custody Tuesday in connection with the robbery at Casey's General Store, Jonesboro police said.

According to Public Information Specialist Paul Holmes, a woman was in custody and is expected to be charged with the robbery, while a man was in custody and is expected to be charged with hindering apprehension.

More details are expected Wednesday when both individuals appear before a judge for a probable cause hearing, Holmes said.

The robbery reportedly happened just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.
