AECC receives more power from wind farm in Oklahoma

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC) announced Friday they had acquired 173 megawatts of additional wind capacity from the Drift Sand Wind and the Chisholm View II projects in Oklahoma.

According to a release, the two farms are expected to generate around 720 kWh annually, or an energy consumption needs of around 58,000 U.S. households.

According to President/CEO Duane Highley, AECC has always looked to add diverse resources, including the wind to their generation portfolio for fuel diversity.

"Over the past five years, AECC has secured long-term power purchase agreements for wind, solar, and biomass capacity.," Highley said. "We are continuing to evaluate new wholesale energy opportunities."
