TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) -

An Arkansas choir teacher faces charges of sexual indecency after police say he sent “improper text messages” to a student.

Trumann police arrested Canon Hoover, 28, on suspicion of sexual indecency with a child and computer child pornography.

According to Assistant Chief Jonathan A. Redman, Hoover is accused of sending “improper text messages, as well as possible child pornography” to one of his students.

Hoover, who taught choir at Trumann High School, was placed on administrative leave while the school district and Arkansas State Police investigated the initial allegations.

The probable cause affidavit stated the school's IT supervisor found "several messages on a school computer that had been assigned to Canon Hoover" and alerted police.

The messages between Hoover and the victim were "sexual in nature," the court document said.

As investigators read the messages it became "obvious that the suspect was sexually grooming the child in an attempt to illicit a sexual relationship from the child," the affidavit said. "He goes on to list in very explicit details about what he wants to do to the victim sexually."

In one conversation, investigators said Hoover talked about taking the victim away for the weekend to a hotel "where they could have sex all weekend."

It appeared Hoover also sent photographs to the student, the documents said.

During a hearing Monday, Dec. 19, a judge found probable cause to charge Hoover. He is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
