BLYTHEVILLE, AR - A group of approximately 45 public policy makers and high-level executives in the insurance, finance and business sectors are to participate in an "Earthquake Insight Field Trip" today in part of Region 8, with the idea of getting first-hand information about earthquake risks in the central United States.

Participants from as far away as California, New York and Rhode Island will participate, as many national and international insurance companies will be represented, as well as several manufacturing, energy and communications companies.

The field trip will be led by a registered geologist, and is underwritten by a grant from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The route will criss-cross the heart of the New Madrid Fault zone, and will include a look at the highest earthquake risk areas in the central U.S.  The tour will begin in New Madrid, Missouri before crossing the Mississippi river into western Kentucky and west Tennessee.  The group will then cross back over the river into Mississippi County, for a tour of the steel industry area near Armorel and Hickman.
