Residents Finding Oasis in Dry Times

June 2, 2005--Posted at 5:00 pm CDT

Jonesboro, AR--The dry May has had an effect onJonesboro’s water supply according to City Water and Light.  During May they recorded 4 hundred and 48 million gallons of water were used by city residents.  In comparison last May ’04 the city used 384 million gallons of water.  That’s an increase of nearly 17 percent.

The figures also show residents increased their water usage by thirty percent over the previous month of April.  In April residents used 344 million gallons of water.

Nearly five percent of all water used for the month was used on Memorial Day when the city went through nearly 20 million gallons of water.

Officials with City Water and Light say the city has far more water currently than they could use, adding they’ve never needed to ration water due to shortages.
