JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

More than four decades ago, Janet Manley took a job with Walmart.

Little did she know that one day she would be managing a store.

In fact, when she took over Walmart Supercenter #128, 1911 W. Parker, in 1996 she was one of the company’s first female store managers.

During her tenure, she served not only her customers but the community by volunteering disaster relief and working with the Lions Club.

“Janet always took time with the customers and treated everyone with love and respect,” said Gerald Brumley. “She will be missed by all at Store 128.”

On Friday, customers and local dignitaries like Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin gathered at the store to commemorate her 43 years with Walmart and wish her a happy retirement.

Although she’s hanging up her blue vest for good, Manley does not intend to spend her golden years rocking in a chair.

An avid hunter and lover of the outdoors, Manley plans to do some scuba diving and work in her garden.
