Mountain Home police receives new equipment

MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) -

Benga, the police dog for the Mountain Home Police Department, will be the beneficiary of a piece of equipment recently received by the department. 

According to a post on the department's Facebook page, PetArmor, a flea and tick fighter, recently donated a bullet-and-stab-protective vest for the dog. Most departments cannot purchase the $1,050 vest due to a lack of funds, company officials said, noting they have donated more than 75 police dog vests to departments around the country since 2013.

Officer Jonathan Griffin has been with the department since June 2005 while Benga has been with the department since May 2010. Griffin and Benga have worked together since Feb. 2012, making drug arrests, tracking suspects and making public appearances, Police Chief Carry Manuel said.
