Suspect in New Year's Day shooting arrested

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A man is in custody after police say he was wanted during an investigation into a New Year's Day shooting.

Ernest Brown, 19, was arrested on Monday and taken to a probation office in Osceola, according to Capt. Scott Adams, Criminal Investigation Division Commander for the Blytheville Police Department.

Brown had active warrants for a shooting on New Year's Day in the 200-block of East Missouri Ave. in Blytheville. The shooting injured Wyta Razor and Shaquille Coleman.

Coleman sustained a gunshot wound to the head and Razor was shot in the back, Adams said. Both were taken to a Little Rock hospital.

According to Adams, evidence processed at the scene indicated a "drug rip off."

Police found shell casings, a container of marijuana, and an assault rifle in the victim's vehicle.

Brown was arraigned in Blytheville District Court Wednesday.

He was charged with two counts of battery, possession of a firearm by certain persons, delivery of marijuana, and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.

Bond was set at $100,000 with five percent ordered to be cash.
