MALDEN, MO (KAIT) -

Before she could be flown to the hospital, police cited a woman with driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle crash that seriously injured her.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday on Route MM, three miles west of Malden.

Krista K. Bates, 28, of Clarkton was northbound when her 2007 Nissan Altima ran off Route MM and struck a guardrail.

Bates, who was not wearing a seat belt, was flown to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau with serious injuries, the crash report stated.

In a separate arrest report, MSHP cited Bates with DWI and careless and imprudent driving before releasing her for medical treatment.
