HARDY, AR (KAIT) - Hardy city officials are hoping to revitalize their downtown area based on plans produced in 1995.

Mayor Jason Jackson said the plan was brought up during a recent city council meeting.

"Well, now all the grants and stuff are actually coming available for us to start reaching out," Jackson said.

Replacing the damaged sidewalks in downtown Hardy and putting up lighting are the first steps of the plan.

"It's an old town," Jackson said. "Back then they didn't really work about making everything handicap accessible. The master plan does have wheelchair ramps and everything on it to try and make it more accessible for everybody to enjoy, enjoy the town."

Jackson said the improvement would still keep a historical look of downtown Hardy.

"We're not gonna try to make it new or anything," Jackson said. "With anything, it can be old and have a historic look to it but it can still have a better purpose."

He said he is glad the vision of leaders in 1995 is finally coming true.
