OAK GROVE HEIGHTS, AR (KAIT) -

Despite a resignation, the Greene County community of Oak Grove Heights still has the same fire chief it had the day before.

Oak Grove Mayor Rudy Garner told Region 8 News he had fired Fire Chief Chris Wilcox for insubordination on Thursday morning.

Mayor Garner said this followed the chief saying he resigned on Tuesday.

At a specially called city council meeting Thursday night, Wilcox formally submitted his letter of resignation to the full council. But, according to Mayor Garner and Chief Wilcox, the council voted not to accept the Wilcox’s resignation.

Mayor Garner said he is not certain of Wilcox’s status until he gets more information from Oak Grove City Attorney Kimberly Dale.

Wilcox told Region 8 News that he still considers himself the chief of the city’s fire department.
