COLLEGE STATION, Texas. (3/10/17) – Arkansas State junior sprinter Jaylen Bacon qualified for the 60-meter dash final while senior thrower Erin Farmer claimed second team All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday.

Bacon, running in the second of the two heats, broke his own school record with a time of 6.57 seconds. He placed second in the heat two automatically advance, but was just .002 behind heat winner Kendal Williams (Georgia). Seeded ninth before competition, Bacon enters the final ranked fifth among those qualifiers. The 60-meter dash final is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

“Proud of Jaylen for making the final and earning first team All-America,” said A-State head coach Jim Patchell. “His start was a little off, but he ran a great second half of the race.”

Farmer earned second team All-America status with a 14th place finish in the shot put. Her first throw ended up being her best on the night as she posted a mark of 15.84m (51-11.75).

“Erin had a difficult day,” said Patchell. “She looked great in warm ups, but she just couldn’t get it going in the competition. She is disappointed, but overall had great indoor season.”
