"Walk Through History" helps people to understand their past

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Downtown Jonesboro was the site of a walking history lesson Saturday as people had the opportunity to learn about the city's history.

A "Walk through History" tour was hosted by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, to teach residents about historic structures and districts in Arkansas.

Of the 14 structures on the tour Saturday morning, half of the buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Revis Edmonds, who serves as Preservation Outreach Coordinator, said the tour not only educates but helps people see the architecture of downtown Jonesboro.

"We're in the middle of a huge redevelopment of downtown Jonesboro and in order to have a great appreciation for where Jonesboro is going, we certainly need to understand its past," Edmonds said.

The program hosts the tours from March through December at locations around the state.
