Woman accused of stealing, forging checks

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Monday to charge a woman with forgery and theft by receiving after police said she tried to cash stolen checks.

On Friday, police responded to Regions Bank, 617 Southwest Dr., regarding a suspect trying to cash a forged check in the drive-thru.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect—later identified as 30-year-old Delilah Davis of Newport—attempted to flee by driving away, but police stopped her a short distance away at the intersection of Martinbrook and Stroud.

After placing her into custody, police searched her car and purse.

According to the affidavit, officers found two forged checks belonging to the victim in her purse and two of the victim's checkbooks in the center console.

Davis appeared in circuit court Monday where Fowler charged her with second-degree forgery and theft by receiving. He set her bond at $25,000 and ordered her to appear in circuit court on April 20 at 8:30 a.m.

If convicted on the forgery charge, a Class C felony, Davis could be fined as much as $10,000 and sentenced to 3-10 years in prison.
