OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) - A teen accidentally shot by an Osceola police officer in February is one of three juveniles now behind bars on numerous charges including robbery and kidnapping.
Osceola police say the three suspects, Zyrion Matlock, Jainilus Carter, and Stephon McLaurin, went to the victim's home while he was sleeping, woke him up, and demanded money from him.
When the victim told the suspects the money was on his card and that he'd have to go to an ATM, the four got into the victim's car and went to the Interstate Shell gas station where the victim works.
Police say when the victim got to the gas station, he went inside and asked the night shift manager for a cigarette.
"He advised that while he was getting a cigarette, he whispered to her what was going on and to call police," the OPD synopsis states.
Police arrived shortly after. When Officer Jennifer Ephlin attempted to arrest one of the juveniles, she accidentally discharged her gun, shooting him in the lower back.
During questioning, one suspect told police they went to rob the victim because they saw some money in his pocket when they were at his house earlier.
All three were charged with aggravated robbery, kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a minor, and engaging in violent group activity.
Each suspect had their bond set at $150,000.
The three appeared in court on March 29. They are due back in court on July 26.
