LEACHVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

A new fire substation will provide better coverage with quicker response times for a town in Mississippi County.

According to Captain Drake Brown of the Leachville Fire Department, the substation in the south end of their fire district is set to open by the end of the month.

Brown said officials saw a need for the better coverage, with between 50 and 100 homes in the area. The new building could also help with lowering the area's ISO rating, which could also help to lower homeowner and business insurance.

"The fire district is long. It's longer than it is wide as far as north and south. Our fire district is currently in the northern area of our district; so this will give us better coverage on the south end for those people who live on the south end of the district," Brown told Region 8 News.

The $100,000 project will have three rescue vehicles and a pumper truck located in the building. Brown said both plumbing and electrical work are still left to be done.
