Backpack program provides need for children

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - March 17 Update: According to Penny Gray, a member of Pay It Forward Paragould, the organization was able to deliver five vehicles full of food donations to Paragould Junior High School and Greene County Tech Primary Thursday.

Gray said the organization wants to thank the Greene County community and surrounding areas for making this drive possible.

With Spring Break quickly approaching, some Paragould businesses are collecting donations for their Bust the Backpack project.

The project is the third annual event for Pay It Forward Paragould to help area school children during Spring Break.

Member Beverly Cook said eight local businesses have collected food for at least two weeks. After receiving the donations, Cook said the group plans to distribute the backpacks filled with food to local schools so that students will have enough food to last through Spring Break.

"You just never can grasp that people go without eating. And I think a lot us take that for granted that's there's children out there who have to learn at a very young age how to cook and do things for themselves. So I think that they are very grateful for what we provided them," Cook said.

The group will deliver the donations to schools on Thursday. However, Cook said people can still take items to Rouge Salon and Spa in Paragould.
