CONWAY, AR (KAIT/KARK) -

A bill in the Arkansas Legislature that deals with transgender bathroom privileges would affect sororities in the state that accept transgender members.

Sororities such as Alpha Chi Omega and Sigma Sigma Sigma have announced their inclusive position for transgender people, according to Little Rock Affiliate KARK.

The opinions on the issue of allowing transgender people into sororities are mixed among students and former students at the University of Central Arkansas.

“It’s a step ahead of a lot of organizations and I applaud them for doing it,” Kayshell Adderley, a UCA student said.

“I could see where some problems would arise,” Joshua Dominey, former UCA student, said.

Both Adderley and Dominey said that the stance of the sororities may encourage transgender students to consider UCA as a place to feel accepted.
