Local Business Recoups After Fire

June 17, 2005--Posted at 4:15 PM CST

WALNUT RIDGE-The cause of an overnight fire to a Region 8 business is still under investigation tonight. Last night, the Walnut Ridge Fire Department responded to the alarm of a fire at the Morgan Pool and Spa manufacturing plant in Walnut Ridge. When they arrived the structure was fully engulfed.

Area fire departments from Walnut Ridge, Hoxie and Pocahontas assisted in knocking down the fire. The building housed the plants saw mill and metal works department. Firefighters say they believe that the fire began in the saw mill.

Walnut Ridge Fire Captain, Wes Lillard, said the fire wasn't contained without injuries.

Lillard said, "One was treated for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation. He was treated and released. Another fireman fell and cut his hand on some of the tin. Just a minor cut."

We spoke with Morgan Pool and Spa National Manufacturing Director, Mark White and he says that no jobs will be lost. Workers in Walnut Ridge will be receiving new equipment over the coming days and will work out of an existing facility.

The current facility is located at the Walnut Ridge Industrial Complex just steps from the regional airport. The building that burned was owned by the city. No word on if the city will replace the building. The fire might have destroyed the building, but it didn't destroy any lives.
