KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - Kennett city officials are not taking speeders lightly after buying a new tool to catch them in their tracks.
The town's Public Safety Director, John Mallott, said the city recently purchased a trailer radar, and it is not an ordinary one.
"This trailer has a camera system where we can identify those drivers and maybe do a proactive contact with them, we're asking you to slow down," Mallott said.
The trailer soon will pop up in random parts of town, neighborhoods where callers have made several complaints and areas where children are present.
"When we get complaints, it's difficult sometimes because of other things around town, day or evening to just place an officer there. These trailers, they show your speed, flash, and hopefully, it's a good proactive warning for people to just slow it down."
Mallott said the city does not have the authority to write tickets based on the camera radar, but it will alert officers about repeating speeders.
They can issue warnings and the radar gives patrol officers a clearer idea of problem areas in town.
