JONESBORO -- Flags sway at half-staff to honor Jonesboro Police Officer Heidi Thompson who died suddenly Thursday morning.

"Heidi was the kind of person that cared about other people a lot. That is one of the things I remember most about Heidi. When someone was in need, Heidi was the one who would step up and help," said Sgt. Stephen McDaniel.

Thompson was a school resource officer at Philadelphia Elementary School.

Friday, family and friends gathered to remember the life of a woman who friends say was truly dedicated to her job.

"I truly believe it was her calling to be here at Philadelphia school taking care of these students, and the parents too," McDaniel.

Friends say a positive attitude and genuine care for others would always greet people when they would meet Heidi Thompson.

"Heidi gave everything of herself to the city and certainly we want to give back to Heidi, and our hearts are with Heidi's family," said McDaniel.

Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6-8 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Funeral Services will be Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro.
