JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Several cats from Northeast Arkansas are now in different parts of the United States.

The Northeast Arkansas Humane Society was chosen to participate in cat transports with a group from Texas.

Margaret Shepherd, executive director of the NEA Humane Society, said they were chosen over 25 other shelters to be involved with the SPCA program to transport cats to different areas of the country.

The NEA Humane Society is also the first humane society in the South to be chosen.

Shephard said the cats are going to Dallas since that area has a shortage of adoptive cats.

There have been 60 cats transported so far.
