BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A sheriff says a man accused of assaulting a woman and then threatening her father with a knife is behind bars.
Steven Dewayne Howell, 41, of Mountain Home was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a domestic disturbance call, according to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery.
Authorities were called to Baxter County Road 202 in the Norfork area around 2 p.m.
Montgomery states Howell assaulted a woman and chased her down the road, according to victims and witnesses.
When the woman's father showed up at the scene, Howell reportedly got a knife from the house, came back outside in an "aggressive manner" and threatened to kill the man.
An officer with the Norfork Police Department arrived first and took Howell into custody.
He resisted arrest and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, according to the sheriff.
Howell is facing a felony charge of aggravated assault along with three misdemeanors for assault on a family or household member, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond and will appear in circuit court on March 23.
