MCDOUGAL, AR (KAIT) -

The city of McDougal is hoping to receive more funding to pave many of the town's gravel roads.

According to Mayor Caroll Shipman, the roads can create a problem by stirring up dust in much of the town.

"We've got probably 80 percent of them it's gravel or it's not blacktop," he said.  "I'd like to get them all black top, if I could, and cut our dust problem."

He said in the fall and spring dust becomes an issue for homeowners in the area.

Shipman said there have been times when the road could not be seen because of the dust.

In the past, the state has helped the town get funding for road improvements.

"They've helped us out and they're supposed to do some more this year," said Shipman.  "We appreciate everything we can get."

Shipman said he would like to pave areas in town that have the heaviest traffic flow first.
