POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - The city of Pocahontas now has an area on Marr Street designated as an arts and entertainment district.
The city's public art guild, along with the tourism association, approached the city council asking for a proclamation of the downtown area.
"We recognize that there's a concentration of arts down here," said Linda Bowlin, who aided in the effort.
The area will soon be referred to as the "North Marr Arts and Entertainment District."
"On this particular street we have The Gallery, the historic site there with the old barber shop, Marr Street Productions," said Bowlin.
"Naming this area would be beneficial for anybody along this area, who might be applying for grants," she said. "None of this means that arts and entertainment are precluded from being in other parts of the city."
She said the group also hopes various trails, such as an art trail, could be added to the district.
"We think it helps identify an area of downtown that will help with the vitality and the activity," Bowlin said.
