JPD: 'Large-caliber' rifle round shot into couple's home

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A man living in the 3800-block of Pleasant View Drive got an unpleasant surprise when he woke up Saturday morning.

The 70-year-old man discovered someone had shot a "large-caliber round" into his living room.

The man told Officer Scott Byrd that he and his wife were sleeping between 12:45 and 1 a.m. when they heard what sounded like glass falling. They got up and looked around, but did not find anything out of the ordinary.

It wasn't until the light of day that they saw someone had shot a bullet through their front door.

The "large-caliber round," according to Byrd, traveled through both the storm door and the main front doors. It then traveled "through the living room, though a lamp shade at the back of the room, through both glass panes and screen of the rear living room window" before exiting the home, he said.

Based on the bullet's trajectory, Byrd surmised it had been fired from the road. He searched the area, but did not find a spent shell casing.

At this time, there are no known suspects.
