LITTLE ROCK, AR - Trumann native and Republican Jim Lagrone, the former president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, announced this afternoon that he is giving up his race for lieutenant governor and instead running for secretary of state.

Lagrone, who now lives in Bryant, said he visited with Republican Party leaders and decided that the field of GOP candidates was strong.  State Senator Jim Holt and state Representative Doug Matayo are running in the Republican Party primary.  Meanwhile, state Senator Tim Wooldridge of Paragould announced this morning that he will seek the Democratic Party's nomination for the office.

No Democrat has yet expressed intentions to challenge incumbent Democrat Charlie Daniels for secretary of state next year.
