WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) -

According to Mayor Charles Snapp, Walnut Ridge has been without a dumpster for years.

Snapp said the town had a dumpster previously, but it was often misused.

"They had a dumpster that was un-manned, and businesses put debris in it," said Snapp

He said outside residents also used the dumpster and it cost the city thousands of dollars.

"My goal was to bring that dumpster back and use it," said Snapp.

However, Snapp said once he looked into bringing the dumpster back he chose to go a different route.

"Why have a spring cleanup and a fall cleanup, let's clean Walnut Ridge up every day you're out there," he said.  "So, now every week they can put two items of a class four pickup with their residential trash, and the city will pick them up."

Snapp said the items must be light enough to be lifted by one person.

Among the items that will not be collected are paint cans with wet paint inside, tires and inner-tubes.
