SEARCY, AR - A White County Sheriff's deputy hospitalized in Little Rock following a traffic accident on Friday died this morning at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences as a result of his injuries.

An Arkansas State Police spokesman told K8 News that 38-year-old George Griffin was pronounced dead this morning at approximately 7:15 a.m. at UAMS.

Griffin had been on a ventilator while in a coma since the accident, when the patrol car he was driving collided with another car.  Authorities say Griffin was following procedure at the time of the accident and had his siren and lights flashing.

The driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized with several broken ribs at the White County Medical Center in Searcy.

Meanwhile, a memorial fund for Griffin has been set up at Regions Bank in Searcy.
