SOUTHSIDE, AR (KAIT) - The weather may be perfect for a baseball or softball game, but one area school district is working on a project in which their students can practice in any weather.
Southside School District officials said Tuesday that they plan to take an empty field at their campus and turn into an indoor baseball and softball facility. Principal Roger Reid said the district has indoor facilities for other sports but the school's baseball and softball teams have to use the middle school gym for practice.
The new facility will be built next to the district's ball fields, and Reid said the need was great for the project.
"We're just a growing district, with limited resources on being able to continue to build. The high school was built without a millage. We have a new choir facility, performance facility, band facility that was built without a millage. So, we're just always using our money wisely," Reid said.
The $200,000 project recently received a donation from the community to help with funding. While the project is in its early stages, officials are hopeful that construction will start this summer.
