City warns of phone scam

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) -

Officials in Lawrence County are asking people to be careful about a possible scam attempt involving a tourism group.

According to a post on the Walnut Ridge, Arkansas Facebook page, the Ozark Gateway Tourist Council has received reports about a bogus call from someone saying they were a representative of the group.

The person on the phone told the caller that they had a remaining balance from a 2014 ad buy and that the caller had to be ready to pay the bill, the post noted.

Council officials are asking people to not give any personal or business information to a person making a similar request, as well as checking your caller ID to know who is calling.
