(KAIT) -

There's lots of talk about the three major developments in Jonesboro.  Two convention centers and a massive mixed-use project at Hilltop.

First, the main person behind the O’Reilly convention center project on the campus of A-State reached out to us directly and gave us an update. Then the developer for the Greensboro Village project at Hilltop announced on their Facebook page after months of planning and engineering, street and utility construction is underway. This is good news, and we are glad to see it.

I realize that bulldozers moving dirt, utility construction, and pouring concrete footings are progress.  But these projects mean a lot to the citizens of Region 8 and stalling them after construction starts is a concern. When we see real construction with steel coming out of the ground and buildings taking shape, we'll believe. And starting right now, we’re going to watch the progress together.

Once a month, we will take pictures of all three of these projects and compare them here on A Better Region 8 so that all of us can see the progress.

Here is the first picture of the Keller Convention Center project on the south side of Jonesboro. This picture is the O'Reilly project located at the old track on Arkansas State's campus. And these pictures show the current status at Greensborough Village at Hilltop.

We'll show next month's pictures side-by-side so that all of us can compare the progress. And to be fair, we will continue to compare every month for the next year.

Keeping the public informed, being accountable, and seeing things through to completion, makes this A Better Region 8.

Thanksgiving is a time to be with loved ones and enjoy good food, but since that is not an option for everyone, members of the Jonesboro community came together to make sure as many people as possible were fed.
