HOXIE, AR (KAIT) -

The city of Hoxie recently transformed their Keep Hoxie-Hoxie Committee into a group with plans to improve the town.

Now the committee also has a new name, they call themselves the H.O.P.E. Committee.

The name stands for Hoxie Opportunities for Progress and Excellence.

"We wanted something that would show that we were interested in improving our community," said the group's chairperson Sherry Moore.  "We have involved churches and we want to involve school students in helping to clean up."

The city recently approved a new property maintenance code ordinance, and the group plans to assist those who need help cleaning their property.

"We plan to aid people who need to cleanup in order to meet our the new ordinance, but who do not have the means or are handicapped," she said.

According to Mayor Tinker, the city also has plans to meet with code enforcement in Little Rock next week.

He said he hopes they can work to find the best way to implement the ordinance.
