CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - About 30 people gathered Saturday morning to clean up the Rutherford Cemetery in Craighead County.
"Once a year we gather out here and have a cleanup day," said Dale Miller, a volunteer and cemetery trustee. "This cemetery was established in 1845."
According to the Miller, the cemetery, which is on County Road 780, is the oldest active cemetery in the county.
"A lot of our pioneers are buried here," he said.
Miller said he continues to help with the cemetery's upkeep each year because he has several family members buried there.
"Mom, dad, sister and of course neighbors," he said.
According to Miller, the clean up is always successful.
"It always looks good, " he said. "People always brag on how it looks when they drive by. It's a pretty cemetery."
