BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

An 87-year-old woman told police she was knocked to the ground Sunday morning by someone who also took her purse, Blytheville police said.

The woman said the incident happened around 7 a.m. at Walmart on Highway 18. According to Captain Scott Adams, the woman said a white male walked up to her and threw her to the ground.

A witness told police the suspect then got into his vehicle, with possible Texas plates and drove off before police got there. The woman was taken to a local hospital with injuries to her hip.

Customers in Blytheville are in shock following the attack.

"That's really terrible but people don't have no regard for people. They don't have regard for age," Jearlean Williams told CNN affiliate WREG-TV.

Captain Adams said on Monday that the same suspect also robbed an elderly woman at the Walmart in Forrest City on April 1.

That woman was loading her vehicle with groceries when she the alleged suspect walked up to her with a butcher's knife, according to Adams.

Detectives learned the suspect drove north on Interstate 55 and are working with other jurisdictions in an attempt to identify and find the suspect.

Anyone with information on the case can call Blytheville police at 870-763-4411.

Meanwhile, Williams believes things are getting too bad.

"I think people are getting very desperate around here to do something like that in broad daylight," she said.
